Commissioners took their first look at the preliminary 2010 budget, which showed a possible real- estate tax increase of 20 percent, 3.58 to 4.3 mills. The hike would be $144 for a property assessed at $200,000. The $13.5 million proposed general fund, nearly 50 percent of which is composed of payroll and health care, contains unknowns such as health care rates and the results of the police and nonuniformed contracts.
Newtown Township set to continue talks for 210-acre Ellis Preserve property
An alternate to one of the largest development proposals ever in Newtown Township was brought before the Board of Supervisors for approval. BPG described layout plans for the 12 elderly housing buildings to be located on the approximately 25 acres in the northeast corner of the Ellis tract. The buildings would house 20 units each for a total of 240 units. Vehicular access would be from Route 252, with no egress onto Goshen Road. The hearing will be continued at the supervisors’ second monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on February 25th.

Act 1 Results – Voters choose ‘No’
Voters across Pennsylvania voted overwhelmingly against Act 1 referendum questions during last Tuesday’s primary election. Only four of Pennsylvania’s 498 school districts, including Bristol Borough in
Bucks
County, approved the tax shift designed to provide homeowners with greater reductions in property taxes.
Pennsylvania’s Taxpayer Relief Act (ACT 1) mandated that school districts place a referendum question on the May 15, 2007 primary election ballot asking voters whether earned income (EIT) or personal income (PIT) taxes should be increased, or instituted for the purpose of reducing real estate taxes on qualified residential properties. All school districts in Pennsylvania, other than Philadelphia, Pittsburg and
Scranton, are required to place a referendum question on the ballot. Click here to see the referendum question and result for each school district in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and
